Louis Kwame Amo

Mr. Louis Kwame Amo is a seasoned development economist with extensive experience in international development cooperation, public financial management, aid management, programming and forecasting. Known for his innovative approach and ability to work under pressure, he has successfully navigated multicultural environments and delivered complex programmes and projects.

He is a Chief Economics Officer and the Acting Director of the External Resources Mobilization and Economic Relations Division (ERMERD) at the Ministry of Finance. Mr. Amo's career in the Ministry of Finance spans three decades, during which he has held various key positions. Preceding the Director ERMERD position, he was Head of the Asia Unit, where he was responsible for bilateral cooperation and the coordination of development programmes supported by Asian development partners. Prior to that role, he was the Head of the Americas/Germany Unit, overseeing economic relations and the programing of resources from USA, Canada, Brazil, and Germany.

He also served as the National Coordinator for the Government of Ghana's Capacity Development Mechanism (CDM), where he managed the CDM Secretariat and ensured compliance with government procedures in implementing capacity development activities.

Mr. Amo holds an MA in International Development from the International University of Japan, with a focus on development finance, macro-econometric modeling of developing economies and quantitative analysis of economic policies. He also holds a BA (Honors) in Economics with Geography and Resource Development from the University of Ghana.

 

He has authored ‘”The Puzzle of Ghana’s Increased Financial Development and the Persistently High Interest Rate Spread in the Banking System of Ghana’’ published in Financial Systems of Developing Economies in Asia and Africa, 2003.
