Accra, 29th May, 2024 - The Ministry of Finance, recognizing the contribution of women in the development and growth of the economy, and the need to build their capacities and skills, has launched the Ministry of Finance Ladies Association (MoFLA).
In a speech to launch the Association, the Minister of State, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare (MP), commended all who worked to birth this association which will among other things, uplift the professional development of women in the Ministry.
“It is evident that our commitment to welfare is built on a framework to develop a future in which women thrive, fulfils potential and inspire each other. We are seeking a future in which experience; cooperation and improvements work together. In unity, we will create a powerful synergy, where health meets success, and ladies unite in pursuit of shared goals”, she said.
The Association is led by a six-member interim executive with Adwoa Fraikue, Chief Economics Officer, as the Interim President. The rest are; Eunice Inkum, Vice President, Cynthia Arthur, Coordinator, Jessie Osew-Fianko, Organizing Secretary, Matilda Gyimah, Treasurer and Ophelia Lamptey, Secretary.
It’s aimed to support gender mainstreaming in MoF’s policy formulation and implementation and promote educational, social, intellectual, and recreational development of members. The slogan of the Association is, “Empowered to transform.”
Hon Osei-Asare commended the leadership of the Ladies Association for the laudable objectives and called on them to remain steadfast together to address emerging challenges that may arise.
The Minister of State charged them to always stay focus and stay together as being able to engage and develop together over the course of their career will be vital and catalytic.
“Stay happy, this platform is about improving well-being…I charge leadership to be creative and innovative in keeping members happy. Let there be endless events that catches the fancy of even the men in this Ministry”, she added.
The founder of the Salt and Light Ministry, Madam Joyce Aryee, in her keynote address urged members to recognize their strength and potential and advised the association to make “their networking more intentional”.
She added that, “We are not in competition with each other”, hence the need to build each other, “it is when we define who we want to be that we will realize there is much more we can do as women”.
The Chief Director, Ms. Eva Esselba Mends shared her enthusiasm for the programme, highlighting its role as a platform for women to exchange experiences, bond through shared activities, and build strong networks. She also praised the growing visibility of women in the Ministry.
The Programmes Manager for GIZ, Ms. Astrid Kohl congratulated the Ministry for the laudable and impactful initiative and pledge the support and continuous partnership with GIZ.
Congratulatory and solidarity messages were received from the Minister for Finance, Hon. Mohammed Amin Adam (MP), the Chief Director of the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Madam Eunice Osae, Coordinating Director, Mrs. Stella Williams, Mrs. Felicia Gyamfi Ashley, Director of Human Capital and General Administration, Ms. Dede Bedu Addo, a Consultant.
Present at the Launch were Ms. Yawa Hansen-Quao, Executive Director, HQ Consulting, and other Directors and Female Staff of the Ministry, Leadership of the CAGD and GRA ladies Association.
The launch of this Association follows the launch of the MOF Women Mentorship Series on 20th December, 2023. END
