Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is leading Ghana’s delegation to the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Bangkok, Thailand, as the country prepares to turn economic stabilisation into sustained transformation.
The meetings, scheduled for October 12 to 18, come ahead of the 2027 Budget, in which Dr. Forson is expected to unveil the New Economy, the government’s blueprint for Ghana’s next phase of economic development.
In Bangkok, the Finance Minister is expected to engage world leaders, senior representatives of international financial institutions and fellow finance ministers in a series of bilateral meetings and multilateral discussions.

His programme includes talks with the IMF’s leadership, senior World Bank officials and other multilateral institutions, alongside engagements with development and financial partners.
This year’s gathering is the first to be held outside Washington, D.C., since Dr. Forson assumed office as Finance Minister in 2025.
Ghana heads into the discussions amid positive assessments from the Bretton Woods institutions for its progress in restoring economic stability following the 2022 crisis.
That recovery provides the backdrop to the government’s next major policy undertaking: moving beyond stabilisation to build an economy capable of sustaining growth and delivering lasting development.
The forthcoming New Economy blueprint is expected to set out that direction, with the 2027 Budget providing details of how the government intends to translate its development ambitions into policy and action.
Dr. Forson signalled this shift during his presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review.
“Stabilisation was never the destination. It was the price of entry,” he stated.
The Bangkok engagements therefore come at a significant moment for Ghana, with international recognition of its recovery coinciding with preparations to set out what comes next.
