Accra, 20th December, 2023 - The Ministry of Finance has launched a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering and nurturing women’s leadership in public service through deliberate mentorship programmes.
The program dubbed, “MOF women Mentorship programme” is aimed at organizing regular fora featuring prominent women from various fields for knowledge sharing, inspiration and fostering connections for young female civil servants to navigate opportunities and challenges within their sectors.
The event held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra attracted high ranking officials and career women from the civil service.
In her address under the theme ‘’Empowering Women’s Leadership in Public Service’’, a deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Abena Osei Asare indicated that, this programme aimed to address the gender gap in leadership roles within the public sector and encouraged women to pursue further education to enable them take leadership roles within the public sector.
“By providing mentorship opportunities, networking events, skill building workshops, the Ministry of Finance is committed to creating an inclusive environment for women to thrive”, she noted.
The Minister who is also the MP for Atiwa East, commended the leadership of the Ministry of Finance by expressing gratitude to the Chief Director, Ms. Eva Essellba Mends for her unwavering belief in the potential of every individual and her passion for positive change.
She also acknowledged the remarkable creativity, energy and efforts by the Director of Human Capital and General Administration at the Ministry, Mad. Felicia Gyamfi-Ashley to mainstream and raise awareness for women’s empowerment and equality.
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Eva Esselba Mends expressed her dedication to promoting gender equality and empowering women in the workforce.
She emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment, like the women mentorship programme to enable women excel in their careers and contribute to the nation’s development.
“This series is not just a programme; it is a PROMISE. It is a promise to nurture the potential within each of you; a promise to bridge the gaps that may undermine hard work; and a promise to illuminate the path towards competent leadership and fulfilment”.
The launch event held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, was attended by high-ranking officials, successful women in the public service and aspiring women professionals.
The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and shared commitment to breaking barriers and promoting gender equality in Public Service Leadership. END
