Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem

Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem was born on February 14, 1978, in Anum, a town in Ghana’s Eastern Region. He pursued his early education at Anum Presbyterian Secondary School from 1992 to 1994 before obtaining a 3-Year Teacher’s Certificate from Peki Training College in 1998.

He furthered his studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Economics and Geography. In 2010, he obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Finance from Virginia Commonwealth University, USA.



Hon. Ampem’s professional journey spans education, finance, and governance. He began his career as a teacher at Akosombo VRA Junior Secondary School No.1 from 1998 to 2001. Later, during his time in the United States, he served as a substitute teacher at Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia, from 2006 to 2008.

In April 2012, he was appointed Director of Finance for the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee (IMCC) on Decentralization at the Office of the President. In this role, he managed financial systems, ensured fiscal accountability, and implemented internal controls to safeguard financial assets. Alongside his government duties, he was a part-time lecturer at the Accra Institute of Technology and Concord Business College, where he taught Finance and Business Management.

From September 2013 to January 2017, Hon. Ampem served as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asuogyaman, overseeing local governance, security, and administrative functions as the President’s representative at the district level.



A dedicated member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem has represented the Asuogyaman Constituency in Parliament since January 2017. As an MP, he has been instrumental in legislative processes, advocating for policies that promote development, scrutinizing government expenditures, and ensuring accountability.

During the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic, he served as Chairman of the Budget Committee, playing a crucial role in fiscal oversight and government spending reviews.

Throughout his political career, Hon. Ampem has remained committed to advancing the well-being of his constituents through policy advocacy, community development, and strategic leadership.
