Accra, Feb 28, 2019 - A Deputy Minister for Finance, Mr. Charles Adu Boahen has inaugurated an Inter-Ministerial Planning Committee to oversee the successful hosting of IMF/World Bank Africa Caucus Meeting scheduled to take place in Accra from 31st July to 2nd August, 2019.

The Africa Caucus was established in 1963 to strengthen the voice of African Governors in the IMF and World Bank Group particularly as it relates to development issues on the African Continent. Inaugurating the Committee on behalf on the Deputy Minister, the Director, Resource Mobilization and Economic Relations Division, Ms. Yvonne Quansah stated that the caucus allows African Finance Ministers and Governors of Central Banks to synchronize the positions of their countries in order to better access the resources to the benefit of their membership in the IMF and World Bank.

According to Mr Adu Boahen, the event is expected to attract about 300 delegates which includes about 40 Finance Ministers and 40 Central Bank Governors along with their Technical Assistants although invitations have been sent to all the 54 African member countries.

“The opportunity to host this year’s meeting came about because Ghana’s Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is the current chairperson of the African Caucus, hence this unique opportunity to share the Beyond Aid vision with the rest of the continent and showcase Ghana as an ardent believer in the future of Africa as a self-reliant and economically formidable Continent” Hon. “We are relying on you to organize a world class event that would be a source of pride to Ghana and particularly a memorable event for all participants and so let us all strive for excellence”, he stressed.
