Loan Agreement between Government of Ghana (GoG) and the African Development Fund (ADF)

Thursday, March 15, 2018 - The Government of Ghana (GOG) and the African Development Fund (ADF), today the 15th March, 2018 signed a loan agreement to support Government’s Flagship Programme in Agriculture: Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ).

2.        Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta, the Minister for Finance, signed on behalf of the Government of Ghana, whilst Dr. Yero H. J. Baldeh, the Ghana Country Manager of the African Development Bank signed on behalf of the African Development Fund.

3.        The loan is a concessionary facility of UA27.86 million (equivalent to US$39.01 million) from the African Development Fund to finance the Savannah Zone Agricultural Productivity Improvement Project (SAPIP). The Project will be implemented over a five (5) year period commencing in 2018 and completing in 2022.

4.        The development objective of the Project is to transform agricultural value chains for food and nutrition security, job creation within the Savannah Zone.

5.        The specific objectives are:

  1. Increase farmers’ food and nutrition security
  2. Increase incomes through increased agricultural productivity and diversification
  3. Enhance the creation and strengthening of agribusinesses to increase incomes of actors along selected value chains in a sustainable basis

6.        The Project has four (4) main components namely;

  1. Crop Productivity Improvement Component
  2. Value Chain and Agribusinesses Development Component
  3. Infrastructure Development Component
  4. Project Coordination, Management and M & E Component

7.        It will directly benefit about 50,000 economically active small holders living in the savannah zone. It will also contribute to the input support programme of the Ministry of the Food and Agriculture reaching about 250,000. END
